The Hospital de Mataró (Barcelona) has been awarded by the European Stroke Organization (ESO), in collaboration with the Angels Initiative, for the good results in Stroke Code, since the center attended a total of 272 alerts of this type in 2022 and managed 55 fibrinolytic treatments.

The Consorci Sanitari del Maresme (CSdM), which manages the Mataró Hospital, explained this Tuesday in a statement that the ESO Angels Awards are granted according to various parameters of quality of care in the performance of the Stroke Code and subsequent follow-up.

The Stroke Code is an activation system in the event of a suspected acute stroke, which implies rapid and coordinated action between different professionals, including the Emergency Services, Neurology, Radiology and ICU, in order to offer the best treatment in the shortest possible time. .

The head of Neurology at Hospital de Mataró, Ernest Palomeras, collected the award during the 9th ESO Annual Congress, held last week in Munich (Germany).

The Mataró Hospital has been serving Stroke Codes since 2008, and since 2013 this care is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, thanks to a telestroke system outside of the neurologist’s on-site hours, which makes it possible to quickly start treatment at the hospital itself and delays due to relocation are avoided.

In total, since its inception, the hospital has attended more than 2,000 Stroke Code activations and almost 300 fibrinolytic treatments have been administered.

The ESO Angels Awards are given to hospital centers that meet a whole set of indicators that reflect excellent care for stroke patients.
