They are already starting to mow the “poor” fields in Sant Hipòlit de Voltregà, in the region of Osona, as seen in this photograph in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia.

In Osona, the fields of barley stand out, a cereal of great importance, both for animals and for humans.

The machines are now in charge of the mowing, whereas, in the past, it was a job for the reapers. But the sickle and the scythe are almost museum tools.

In addition to the family work groups, at harvest time gangs of harvesters made up of four, six, eight or more sickles would meet, led by a foreman.

They used to close the group of women, young or old reapers who collected and tied the sheaves in the traditional packages and piles.
