The lifeguards on the beaches of Barcelona have started a strike this Friday called by the CGT to denounce the lack of personnel and lack of equipment, a stoppage that has been taking place since this morning with minimum services stipulated by the Generalitat of 50%.

From CGT they have explained, after a protest in the Sant Jaume square of several dozen lifeguards, that the representatives of the workers are holding a meeting with staff of the consistory to try to bring positions closer.

CGT considers that the rights of workers are being violated with the minimum services at 50%. The Ministry of Labor has unsuccessfully maintained mediation in recent days between company and workers.

“The towers (of surveillance of the beaches) will be occupied by workers of minimum services, who will not be able to move from the surveillance point in 5 hours, neither to perform physiological needs nor to hydrate. Someone with a good salary has carried out ‘an impromptu action plan’, which does not take into account any incidence, not even natural ones,” the union denounced in a statement.

The lifeguards point out that this also implies that the full safety of the bathers cannot be guaranteed, even if the administrations want to “give a sensation of normality and invisibility to the strike.”

CGT points out that the company Aunar Group SL is bankrupt and from July 16 there should be a new company, but the tender was deserted and now they would be receiving the payroll, they say, directly from the city council and with delays for months.

“The staff will endure the strike until a definitive solution is reached. We are united. If the administration wants a fight, it will lose it,” they have assured.
