The branch of the Very High Voltage line (MAT), which crossed the Guilleries massif and had aroused great rejection in the territory, is history. The Official State Gazette (BOE) incorporates the alternative route agreed upon between the Generalitat and all the actors involved, including Red Eléctrica, Endesa, Adif as well as the affected town councils.

The new 19-kilometer route minimizes the landscape, environmental and social impact on the surroundings by having a 2-kilometer underground section – near the Girona airport – and reduces the impact on the spaces to less than a third. natural gas lines of the MAT (400 kV).

Specifically, there will be only 5 kilometers of MAT, a section near Santa Coloma de Farners, where a substation will be built that will reduce the voltage to 220 kV over 14 kilometers. A route that will take advantage of existing infrastructure corridors such as the Eix Transversal (C-25) or the AVE line until reaching Riudarenes.

The BOE has published the agreement of the Council of Ministers that definitively repeals the 400 kV line that crossed Santa Coloma de Farners and Riudarenes over 17.5 km through spaces of natural interest and incorporates the alternative route into energy planning. of the government until 2026.

The Ministry for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge argues that the change has been adopted to “improve social acceptance” of this infrastructure that could enter service in 2027.

The line will make it possible to reinforce the quality of supply in the south of the Costa Brava and in the north of Maresme, increase the supply in the high-speed rail corridor and meet new demands such as the future Blanes desalination plant, which could come into operation in 2028. .
