The German Stefan Bradl will replace Marc Márquez at the Grand Prix of the Americas, in Austin (Texas, USA), as confirmed by the Repsol Honda team, to race alongside the Spanish Joan Mir. The Spanish driver continues his recovery after breaking his right hand in Portimao during the first race of the championship.

Márquez will try to be back in the Spanish GP, on April 30 in Jerez, where he will have to serve the long double lap sanction that he drags after his incident in the first round of the year in Portimao.

Bradl, the team’s test driver, carried out a test on Monday and Tuesday at the ‘Ángel Nieto’ Circuit of Jerez with the aim of improving the performance of the Honda. The German, who was fourth in Austin in 2014, wished Márquez “all the best in his recovery” and added that he expects a “productive” weekend.

“It will be interesting to ride again at COTA, I was last racing there in 2016 and it will give me the opportunity to test the 2023 RC213V on a very different type of track compared to what I have ridden so far this year,” said Bradl.

Mir, for his part, will get back on his motorcycle in the third round of the 2023 season after suffering a crash in Argentina during the ‘sprint race’ that prevented him from competing in Sunday’s race at the Termas de Río Hondo Circuit.

“I’ve been able to spend this week at home fully recovering after the crash on Saturday in Argentina and getting back to training. I had a good race in Austin last year and Honda have a good record there too, so the goal is to have a good weekend.” consistent and avoid problems”, declared the man from Palma.

The Spaniard, who touched the podium on two occasions in Argentina -2018 in Moto2 and 2022 in MotoGP-, will seek to improve his feelings this weekend after a difficult start to the season.
