The Department of Territory of the Generalitat has put out to tender the drafting of the construction project for part of the extension of metro line 4 from La Pau station to the La Sagrera interchange, in Barcelona. The project will define the pending actions necessary for the commissioning of this extension, with an estimated investment of 98 million euros. The drafting of the project is put out to tender for an amount of 2.6 million and a period of 15 months.

The project foresees the execution of a new tunnel excavated in the open air between screens, about 320 masters in length; the new Santander station and several actions in the two existing tunnel sections. The new station will have side platforms and will have a single lobby with access from Santander Street.

The Infrastructure Master Plan 2021 – 2030 for the Barcelona Area provides for the extension of the line from La Pau station with three more stations, two of them interchanges: Santander, Sagrera-TAV and La Sagrera.

Much of the infrastructure of the extension between La Pau and La Sagrera of l’L4 has already been completed. Most of the tunnel is already built and is currently used by the L9/L10 north. On the other hand, all the civil works for the La Sagrera –TAV and La Sagrera stations have also been completed. Adding the work carried out and the slope, the total investment in the extension amounts to an investment of more than 300 million euros.

The extension of L4, despite having a relatively short length – almost 3 kilometers – will significantly increase the connectivity of the public transport system, since it will facilitate connectivity with the L1, L5, L9 metro lines, Rodalies and High Speed ??lines. , in addition to expanding the coverage of the metro service in residential, industrial, commercial and service areas.

It is expected that this extension of L4 will capture a demand of more than 15 million passengers per year and will save 1,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually.

Currently, the L4 has a length of 16.5 km and has 22 stations; from the Trinitat Nova stop, in the Nou Barris district, to La Pau in the Sant Martí district, crossing Horta-Guinardó, Gràcia, the Eixample and Ciutat Vella.
