The fire that originated in Batea has been stabilized after burning more than 500 hectares in Aragón

The fire that originated this Saturday in an agricultural plot in the municipality of Batea, in the province of Tarragona, extended to Aragonese territory, a few hours after its start, mainly in the area around the towns of Nonaspe and Fabara, is stabilized. It has burned about 550 hectares of land, within a perimeter of 14 kilometers, in the autonomous community.

The general director of Forest Management of the Government of Aragon, Ana Oliván, has reported that the fire, which started at 3:19 p.m. this Saturday, was considered stabilized at 8:00 a.m. this Sunday.

“Although the temperatures are not excessively high, the drought situation suffered by the eastern area of ??Aragon causes the vegetation to have very low humidity levels, which favors the development of fires,” commented Oliván.

However, extinguishing work continues on the left flank of the fire, in the municipality of Fabara, “affecting the hot spots.” The air vehicles arrived early in the morning, he stated.

The Government of Aragon has reported this Sunday that the evolution of the extinguishing work in the last few hours, in which work has been carried out according to forecasts, has been favourable. Fire activity in the head area is “practically zero.”

The main impact has been on pine forests and scrubland, as well as some agricultural plots and a farm without animals on the farm. No evacuation was necessary.

The weather forecast for Sunday morning indicates light winds from the southeast with speeds of less than 20 kilometers per hour, something that added to the increase in relative humidity experienced during the night and that will continue during the early hours of the morning, is positive for extinction tasks.

Likewise, the A-2411 highway continues to be closed, as it passes through Nonaspe, between kilometers 8 and 15, as confirmed by the Traffic Management Center.

The Government of Aragon operation that will work this Sunday is made up of three helicarried crews and five ground crews, four fire engines, two light helicopters and one medium helicopter.

The Miteco resources are added to them, with two medium helicopters; and those of the DPZ, which has mobilized two fire engines and a nurse. Firefighters from the Generalitat of Catalonia, the Civil Guard and Civil Protection also participate in the extinguishing efforts. In total, there are about a hundred troops on the ground.

The Advanced Command Post (PMA) of the 112 type C, is installed in the town of Nonaspe, and has a Fire Extinction director technician, a support unit for the Fire Extinction director and a mobile station with TETRA communications.

The Aragonese Executive has activated, at 6:20 p.m. this Saturday, operational situation 1 of the emergency phase of the Special Civil Protection Plan for Emergencies due to Forest Fires
