The extreme drought of the Sau reservoir leaves this sad and impressive image of the church of Sant Romà, which we can see in The Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia.

The drought reveals remains of the old town and sedimentation that, despite being a worrying panorama, leaves such spectacular prints.

The execution of the plan to empty the Sau reservoir to transfer its flow to the Susqueda reservoir is further changing this landscape.

The drought is as if it had turned the Sau reservoir into an archaeological site. And it is that the low level of the swamp has exposed more and more vestiges of the town before submerged under the waters.

It is no longer just that the church of Sant Romà de Sau can be seen, but other remains of the old town have remained on the surface as testimony to a past that was submerged in the swamp.

The Sau reservoir, located in the municipality of Vilanova de Sau, is at the foot of the Guilleries massif. It is part of a system of three reservoirs, along with those of Susqueda and Pasteral, which unites the counties of Osona and La Selva.
