Although in both places they seek to draw up a left-wing pact, for Comuns Sumar the possible negotiation to form a Government in the Generalitat of Catalonia is a separate folder from any type of deal that could occur in the Barcelona City Council, where they are in the opposition.
“We work separately in Catalonia and in Barcelona,” said the candidate for the presidency of the Generalitat of Catalonia, Jéssica Albiach, in reference to the negotiations. Will they demand to enter the government of the Barcelona City Council to be part of the Government of the Generalitat? They asked him this Friday, the last day of the electoral campaign, at a press conference organized by the ACN. “No way,” Albiach responded. According to her, in Barcelona the PSC and ERC will present an agreement after 12-M without counting on them.
Asked what result would be good for her party this Sunday, Albiach assured that “a good result is that progressive forces join forces.” Several polls predict that the commons, currently with eight deputies in the Parliament, may lose support in the 12-M. “With 40% undecided, any survey can be very wrong,” she remarked hours before closing the electoral campaign in Cornellà de Llobregat.
The PSC candidate, Salvador Illa, is running as the “useful vote” for the progressive electorate. Questioned about this question, Albiach responded with more questions: “The vote is useful for what? To build the Hard Rock? To expand the El Prat airport? To carry out the fourth beltway? to agree with Junts, who doesn’t close the door to?” For all these reasons, the Comuns Sumar candidate has reiterated that her formation is the “useful vote to form a progressive government.”
Albiach has said again that his intention is to enter the Government to carry out a left-wing government but not at any price. Its conditions are a boost to public housing, health and education policies; discard projects such as the fourth belt, the airport expansion and the Hard Rock; and that the Generalitat of Catalonia “break relations with Israel.”
