In La Vanguardia Readers’ Photos we can see these images of the shadow of the arches of the old bridge of Manresa, in Bages, over the Cardener river, which flows down in chocolate color.

With the latest rains that were recorded over the weekend, the river moves down with sediments of earth. Sediment is a solid material accumulated on the Earth’s surface derived from the actions of phenomena and processes that act in the atmosphere, in this case, rainfall.

The Cardener is a tributary of the Llobregat, which crosses the municipalities and towns of Sant Llorenç de Morunys, Solsona, Olius, Clariana de Cardener, Cardona, Súria, Callús, Sant Joan de Vilatorrada, Manresa and Castellgalí.

It is born at an altitude of approximately 1,100 meters, in the Fonts del Cardener, located in a valley between the sierras del Port del Comte (2,332 m) and that of the Verd (2,271 m), in the municipal area of ??Coma i Pedra, in the Solsonès region.

The Pont Vell de Manresa is very well preserved. It was one of the entrances to the city passing over the mighty Cardener River. It has suffered several destructions and reconstructions to this day.

Of Romanesque origin, today it offers a faithful representation of a medieval bridge that was already rebuilt in the 12th century and of which only the bases of the central arch are preserved.

It must be taken into account that the bridge was destroyed in 1939 and rebuilt between 1960 and 1962. It draws eight semicircular arches with a maximum height of 25 meters above the river.
