They are days of abundant rain in Berguedà, which is wonderful for the fields and the La Baells reservoir. Spectacular white clouds form in the morning, as we see in the Photos of the Readers of La Vanguardia, which darken in the afternoon and end up unloading heavy rains.

The reservoir has 365 ha and a capacity of 110 hm3, but now it only contains 28 hm3, it is at 25%. The rains in May have slightly alleviated the very low level of water and it may continue to improve with the heavy rains in the first week of June.

Precipitation is an important part of the hydrological cycle, bringing fresh water to the emerged part of the earth’s crust and, therefore, favoring life on our planet, both animals and plants, which require water to live.

To measure precipitation, instruments such as the rain gauge and the pluviographs are used, which measure the precipitation in mm, which would be the thickness of the sheet of water that would form, due to precipitation, on a flat and impermeable surface and which is equivalent to to liters of water per square meter of land (l/m²) .

Since 1960, the measurement of rain by means of meteorological radar has become increasingly popular, which is generally directly connected to mathematical models that allow determining the intensity of rain in an area and the flows in real time, in a certain section of a river in that area.

The Baells Reservoir is a Spanish hydraulic infrastructure located on the Llobregat River. It is formed by a dam located in the municipality of Sercs, which extends through the territories of Sercs and Vilada, between the pre-Pyrenean mountains of Catllaràs, to the east, and Figuerassa and Arades, to the west.

The main objective of the reservoir is to regulate the upper basin of the Llobregat river, supply water to the metropolitan area of Barcelona and produce hydroelectric power. The dam, with a double curvature arch, was inaugurated in 1976.

Its construction caused the displacement of the town of Sant Salvador de la Vadella, which was left under water, and scattered houses to a newly built town, Sant Jordi de Cercs. The railway line from Guardiola de Berga to Olvan-Berga was also closed in 1972 and the Vilada bridge was built.

And, after the rain, a walk through Berga. The sky appears to us full of vitality, with large clouds and clearings in constant movement.

The leaves of the plants enjoy the drops of water. The puddles reflect trees and clouds, as we see in this other series of photographs.

Berga is the capital of the Berguedà region. It is located in the center of the region, at the foot of the Queralt mountain, where a beautiful sanctuary stands from which you can contemplate a splendid view of the Llobregat valley and even the Montserrat mountain range.

The location of the city is privileged, since it is close to the mountains, from which you can start outings into nature, to practice sports such as skiing in winter, or to learn about the area’s past.
