In the fields of Berguedà, the rivalry between poppies and rapeseed can be seen for having chromatic hegemony (between red and yellow) and beauty this spring, as we see in La Vanguardia’s Readers’ Photos.
On the one hand, the poppy has traditionally been associated with agriculture since ancient times. And its life cycle adapts to most cereal crops. So much so that they flower and fruit before harvesting the crops.
On the other hand, rapeseed crops are increasingly spreading throughout the Catalan regions, in this case, creating beautiful natural yellow carpets in Berguedà.
Rapeseed can be a very profitable crop and it seems that the sporadic rains have helped these fields to shine this spring as well.
Nearby Osona is the Catalan region with the largest extensions of this crop, which is basically used to produce fodder and biodiesel.
Furthermore, in spring, the rapeseed fields create a green and yellow fantasy in the landscape, giving it a lot of color and generating life among insects.
