Given the large presence of jellyfish on the beaches of Maresme, some municipalities such as Calella will open the showers on the beaches temporarily from tomorrow, Friday August 25. Throughout the region, next to the green or yellow flag, the white flag with a jellyfish drawn on it flies.

In the Maresme, the presence of jellyfish in the bathing area is very intense as a consequence of the high temperatures of the seawater. The presence of these invertebrates on the beaches of Callao and Sant Simó in Mataró is especially significant, but also further north, on Els Pescadors beach in Pineda de Mar and on Santa Susanna.

This provisional measure, at the discretion of the municipal government of Calella, should serve to allow people who use the beaches these days to cool off and cannot bathe comfortably to avoid jellyfish stings. However, from the City Council it is requested to make a responsible use of water, since we are in a situation of drought.

In addition, from Calella they ask the public not to take the jellyfish out of the water and leave them in the sand and, also, to avoid touching them. This week the yellow flag is activated, as well as the explicit one indicating the presence of jellyfish.
