The Catalan Federation of Banc dels Aliments (FECATBAL) launches the “SOS Llet” economic donation campaign to buy milk and face the shortage of this product that it suffers. The entity advises that it is currently distributing only 0.6 liters per person per week, when the ideal amount to maintain a balanced diet would be 1 liter. This means that now the association is only distributing 144,264 liters per week, almost 100,000 liters less than it should.

The president of FECATBAL, Antonio Fo, has encouraged companies, administrations and citizens to collaborate with the campaign. “From this month of March we will not have enough milk to distribute and guarantee this healthy diet to the 240,441 beneficiaries that we serve around Catalonia”, he warned.

The main cause of the low availability of this basic product is the reduction in aid from the European Fund for Aid to Disadvantaged People of the European Union. In the first installment of 2023, the contribution will be reduced by half and will also not include the contribution of milk.

The campaign begins this March on the FECATBAL website and also through the Banc dels Aliments de Barcelona, ??Tarragona, Lleida and Girona websites and will last until mid-April. In addition, it will also be possible to donate through two totems installed in the Corte Inglés de la Diagonal and in the Can Dragó, both in Barcelona, ??during these two months.
