The Metropolitan Area of ??Barcelona (AMB) approved today, during the Board of Governors and with an urgent nature, the granting of two exceptional direct subsidies to the town councils of Badalona and Santa Coloma de Gramenet (Barcelonès North).
This contribution of resources is motivated by the collapse on Calle Canigó in Badalona, ??on February 6, as well as by the preventive evictions that have taken place in the two municipalities in recent weeks, due to the appearance of cracks and structural deficiencies in different residential buildings.
The objective of the subsidies is to cover the costs of caring for people in a social emergency situation caused by the collapse or eviction of residential buildings in poor condition.
The amount of aid awarded is 600,000 euros in the case of Badalona, ??and 400,000 euros in Santa Coloma de Gramenet. The resulting actions must be carried out between February 6 and December 31, 2024.
On February 26, the executive vice-president of the AMB, Antonio Balmón, participated in the meeting of the crisis cabinet created by the collapse of the block of flats on Calle Canigó, integrated by the Generalitat of Catalonia through the Secretary of Territory, Urbanism and Urban Agenda and the Housing Agency of Catalonia, the General Directorate of Civil Protection, the City Council of Badalona and the AMB.
The objective of this cabinet is to analyze the situation, based on the technical reports that are being prepared, and make decisions regarding the actions to be carried out in the buildings. It also offers collaboration both in inspection tasks and with regard to the aid and relocation system for families who need it.
