The Generalitat Valenciana announced a few days ago that it was close to closing an agreement with a multinational to install a manufacturing plant for electric cars and batteries in Valencia. Since then, the option has been closed that it is Tesla, Elon Musk’s company, which is interested in investing 4,500 million euros in the Valencian Community; investment of more than the 3,000 that Volkswagen and its subsidiary Power Co are executing for the Sagunt gigafactory.
From the presidency of the Generalitat Valenciana, who is the one who directly leads the negotiations, it is neither denied nor confirmed that this is the company. They point out that they must respect “confidentiality” for an agreement that is not yet fully closed but that could be confirmed in a few days and that Ximo Puig in person has been negotiating for a year. If so, the Valencian Community would become the most important electric automotive area in southern Europe. Tesla would join Power Co and the electrification of the Ford car plant in Almussafes.
Tesla has invested in Germany more than 5,000 million euros in its first European gigafactory. The megafactory, which is located on the outskirts of Berlin, produces cars and batteries. But Musk’s firm wanted to find another site for a second factory. Weeks ago, during the electoral campaign, Ximo Puig announced that there were conversations with “important multinational companies” interested in investing in the Valencian Community.
