The Department of Territories will begin work this summer to complete two sections of the Llacs Cycling Route. With a global investment of 2.6 million euros, actions will be carried out that include steps at different levels to cross the C-13 or improvements to existing roads.

The Ruta dels Lacs runs through the districts of Segrià, La Noguera and Pallars Jussà, parallel and complementary to the Lleida – La Pobla de Segur de los Ferrocarrils line. Once fully completed, it will have a length of 107 km, of which 80 can be done by pedal and the remaining 27, between Sant Llorenç de Montgai and Cellers, will be done in combination with the railway.

The Department has already executed a good part of the section Cellers-Salàs de Pallas together with the Regional Council of Pallars Jussà, as it coincided with the development project of the right bank of the Noguera Pallaresca, between the reservoirs of Sant Antoni Y Terradets. This new itinerary has been executed and the Department has financed about 9.8 million of the total expected cost of 1.2 million.

Now what has been promoted, and which will begin to be carried out this summer, are various improvement actions at points in this section that affect structures on the C-13 highway or generate new crossings at different levels. The Department will execute them directly with an investment of 1.3 million. Among other actions, a new overpass will be built over the C-13 at the height of Cellers station, the Pantà de Terradets viaducts will be widened and the C-13z, the old road layout, will be adapted in the vicinity of Halls of Pallars.

The other package of works that will also begin in summer is the Balaguer-Sant Llorenç de Montgai section, 12 km long and an investment of another 1.3 million. In this section, the existing paths will be improved to allow bicycles to pass through the crest walkway of the Sant Llorenç de Montgai reservoir dam, currently only for pedestrian use.

On the other hand, the existing itinerary will be completed partially next to the LV-9047 road to the urban center of Sant Llorenç de Montgai, where the route connects with the Ferrocarrils station.

The Councilor of Territory, Juli Fernàndez explains that the Ruta dels Llacs is one of the 9 cycling routes that the Government is developing as part of the 2023-2025 program of the Catalan Bicycle Strategy, which has the global objective of reaching 500 new kilometers of these runners who push the bike.
