The smoke caused by an electrical fault on line 5 of the Madrid metro has generated scenes of panic among dozens of passengers who ran out of the car this Monday, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of the 11-M attacks.

As reported by a spokesperson for the Madrid Headquarters of the National Police to the Servimedia agency, at 3:10 p.m. they were notified that a subway stopped at the Moncloa station was having problems. Apparently, the underside of a carriage had overheated, causing smoke to come out. Faced with this situation, metro staff were forced to manually open the convoy doors from the outside.

Several users of the social network ‘X’ have shared videos of what happened, in which dozens of people are seen running out of the subway and heading directly to the escalators. In addition to what happened, the commotion has been generated because the incident has coincided with the 20th anniversary of the 11-M attacks.

However, the Ministry of the Interior and the National Police have quickly clarified that it was only an electrical incident. Likewise, the police have confirmed that there have been no injuries and line five of the Madrid metro has been restored a few minutes later.
