The Tax Agency of Catalonia (ATC) has published the definitive register corresponding to the financial year 2022 of all the vehicles that are taxed by the tax on CO2 emissions.
As of September 1, people who are owners of one or more vehicles can consult the details of the definitive register and the fee that must be paid at the electronic office of the ATC atc.gencat.cat, accessing with the NIF and the license plate. (for a specific vehicle) or with digital identification, using idCAT Mòbil or another digital certificate, to view all the vehicles subject to the tax of which you are the owner.
This green tax, in line with the environmental taxation promoted in Europe to combat climate change, taxes CO2 emissions from passenger cars, vans and motorcycles due to their direct impact on the greenhouse effect and global warming, and therefore on people’s health.
Vehicles that have direct debit payment will receive a charge to their account on 11.20.2023.
Vehicles that do not have direct debit payment:
This exercise, in order to facilitate more immediate access to the informative letter, as a novelty, can also be accessed through the electronic channel from the electronic notifications of the electronic headquarters of the ATC, without the need to be subscribed to the electronic notification. It is only necessary to identify yourself with idCAT Mòbil or another digital certificate and it will be available at the time of the letter to make the payment through the different means enabled.
In the event that, upon receiving the notification to pay the tax, any incorrect data is found, an appeal can be filed by accessing the census consultation page (atc.gencat.cat/co2padro).
If the payment has not been direct debited, from September 1 you can pay by consulting the final register at the ATC electronic headquarters: atc.gencat.cat/co2padro (with card, current account charge and Bizum ); on the phone 012, with automated payment; on the telephone number of L’ATC us truca (93 551 51 51); in collaborating financial entities; at Post Offices, and at all ATC offices and branches, by appointment. You can also use the QR code included in the payment letter.
Natural and legal persons who during the year 2022 have had tax domicile in Catalonia and have owned a vehicle (car, van or motorcycle) have to pay the tax. Specifically, passenger cars and motorcycles with official emissions of more than 120 g/CO2 per km (and more than 160 g/CO2 per km, in the case of vans) and that have an entry fee greater than 6 euro.
Legal persons without tax residence in Catalonia are also required, but who, in 2022, have had an establishment, branch or office and have owned a vehicle domiciled in Catalonia.
100% electric vehicles, mopeds, trucks or vehicles over 3.5 tons, coaches and vehicles authorized to transport more than 9 people (including the driver) are not subject to payment.
Vehicles adapted for the driving of people with reduced mobility are exempt. Vehicles with historic vehicle registration and classic vehicles enjoy a discount of 100% of the total fee and, therefore, are not taxed either. Likewise, the holders of vehicles that do not exceed 6 euros of fee to enter do not have to pay the tax.
Everything collected from the tax goes entirely to the Climate Fund and the Natural Heritage Fund, and returns to people through investment in actions to improve the environment; promoting sustainable mobility and the energy transition, preventing forest fires and adapting forests to the climate emergency, conserving natural parks, restoring marine ecosystems, and promoting research and innovation to mitigate climate change.
