Carnival is an art that makes the fans and lovers of coplillas smile and applaud. And it is this same carnival, which involves cities back in February, will also become a solidarity meeting point in September in Puerto Real, Cádiz.

After the fire in the Parque de las Canteras devastated 80 hectares of the green lung of the Bahía, the components of various street groups of this popular Cádiz festival have not hesitated: unity is strength and it is necessary to help to face it to the damage caused by the flames.

And to raise funds to help entities and people affected by the fire, a solidarity gala is being organized.

At the moment, a dozen groups have already joined the initiative and have the support of the Puerto Real town hall and other groups, as the promoters of the event have announced in a note.

At the moment, a specific date has not been established for its celebration, although it is expected that it will be this coming September in the Puerto Real municipality. The organization of this event has indicated that it is open to collaboration of any kind by groups, companies or individuals to advance in its celebration.

At the moment, they have joined this initiative The coconuts (chirigota de casapuerta), From medieval to worse (the Chirigota del Perchero), The crybabies (the Chirigota del Airon), The tribe of the Cadiz Indians of the San Pedro River reserve (El Showmancero), The shamans of the marquesado (Chirigota del Ukele), Those who come from tasting (Chirigota de los Bocuñano), Espartaco what they give you with the cue (Chirigota Rockera), Those who slow down (Chirigota del Parchís) , the chirigota Madre Courage, the chirigota del Foame, Joselini and the chirigota Los niños del paragüas.

The fire in the Parque de las Canteras, “the green lung” of Puerto Real, started on Sunday, August 6 at 3:35 p.m. and the Junta de Andalucía activated alert level 1 at 5:15 p.m. At 11:30 p.m. that same Sunday, it was considered stabilized and the residents who were evicted for prevention were able to return to their homes once the zero level of emergency was restored.

In the first moments of the fire, the population tried to neutralize the advance of the flames in this natural area with human chains to bring buckets of water closer, a gesture that the mayoress of this municipality, Aurora Salvador, thanked and recognized.

Among the most significant damage, in addition to the destruction of a large part of the Quarries, the fire also caused damage to the exterior areas of some nearby homes and to the Cádiz Autism Resource Center, razing the orchard, trees, garden area and an adapted van. In this regard, it should be remembered that the entity began a campaign to raise funds, achieving more than 28,000 euros in donations in 72 hours.

Infoca personnel were working for days to completely extinguish this fire, finally achieving it last Saturday, August 12, six days after it started.

On the other hand, the municipal council issued a municipal proclamation, which is still in force, which prohibits access to the Las Canteras pine forest for the entire population “until further notice” since there is a danger of detachment from burned trees and to avoid the soil erosion, enemy of reforestation.

The mayoress also pointed out that it is “essential” to raise awareness about the fact that the recovery of the Quarries “will only be possible if we let nature do its job”, and in this sense announced the future holding of workshops and conferences in which there is the presence of expert technicians to address the recovery of this park.
