“Spain is going in the right direction,” Pedro Sánchez assured, this Saturday at the opening of the Extremadura PSOE congress held in Mérida, after ensuring that his Government “is dismantling one by one all the great neoliberal myths,” by deploying a reform agenda that does not imply social cuts or increase the public deficit, while highlighting that Spain leads economic growth and job creation in Europe. And all of this, he has denounced, always under intense fire from heavy artillery from the right. “Spain is breaking all employment records, and they are breaking all records for toxicity in the opposition,” he criticized.
“They make mud because they are full of mud,” Sánchez warned in the face of the harsh offensive deployed by the Popular Party with the ammunition of the Koldo case corruption scandal, in which they are now also targeting the president’s wife, Begoña. Gómez, while trying to weather the storm in the face of accusations of alleged tax fraud against the partner of the Madrid president, Isabel Díaz Ayuso. But the head of the Executive wanted to stand up to the partisan confrontation over corruption: “They are going to make a mess and we are going to govern for the people,” he defended.
The President of the Government has once again put the focus on Alberto Núñez Feijóo who is now trying to overcome the alleged case of corruption that affects Ayuso. “They replaced Pablo Casado as a consequence of a crisis of political corruption that affected the president of the Community of Madrid and to which today Feijóo does not respond, only a silent response,” he highlighted.
Sánchez has insisted that, despite the enormous tension in the political scene and the uncertainties of the legislature – now pending an intense electoral calendar – he is absolutely determined to exhaust his mandate in 2027. “We are not going to stop, no matter how bad it is for them.” them. The citizens spoke on July 23 and said yes to a progressive government and no to a reactionary coalition government,” he alleged.
The Chief Executive has regretted that “there is a lot of polarization and tension” in the public debate, although it has nothing to do with the real concerns of citizens. But he has attributed this climate to the spread of an “extreme right-wing international” throughout the world and also in Spain. “The right and the extreme right blend in in the way they speak, do politics and approve measures contrary to coexistence and cohesion,” he lamented.
“Of course there is polarization, but it is an asymmetric polarization,” he insisted. “There are some who insult and others who are insulted, there are some who attack our headquarters and others who are attacked,” Sánchez warned. “The far-right international has made polarization and tension its only strategy to be able to destroy the Government of Spain,” she warned. “They have been trying for six years and have not succeeded. But I’m already telling you that you’re not going to make it. We are going to govern this country for nine years, and then the Spaniards will have to decide with their vote,” he reiterated.
Sánchez has criticized that the right has always questioned his legitimacy as President of the Government – “they called me a squatter” – and has delegitimized his parliamentary support. And that he has tried to “twist and instrumentalize all institutions”, pitting the Senate against Congress, the General Council of the Judiciary against the Constitutional Court, and his autonomous governments against the central Executive. Furthermore, he has denounced, the PP “persecutes the media that denounce its cases of corruption.”
“They question the legitimacy of the Government, they instrumentalize the institutions and use lies as a way of doing politics,” he summarized the keys to the PP’s opposition strategy. “They use insult, disqualification and destruction of the adversary, even from a personal point of view, because they have no political project for their country,” he warned. With the sole objective, he has assured, of “demobilizing the progressive electorate and creating disaffection among citizens with respect to politics.” But Sánchez has urged the PSOE to grit its teeth: “In the face of insult, we have to demand temperance when doing politics, and a lot of patience so as not to fall for their provocations, their insults and their disqualifications.” Temperance and patience, therefore, but also “bravery and courage”, to stand up to the offensive of the right. And, finally, “unity” in the socialist ranks.
The extraordinary regional congress of the PSOE of Extremadura that started today in Mérida with the presence of Pedro Sánchez, has bid farewell with honors, tears and loud applause to Guillermo Fernández Vara – who presided over the Board until last year when an alliance evicted him from office. of the PP with the far-right Vox-, and has welcomed the new general secretary of this federation, Miguel Ángel Gallardo, president of the Badajoz Provincial Council, who has already set the goal of recovering the presidency of this autonomous community in the 2027. And Sánchez has assured that he will have all his support to achieve it.
