A 40-year-old man of Nepalese nationality set himself on fire this Wednesday at number 84-86 Avenida del Cid, in Burgos, according to data from the Castilla y León 112 Emergency Service and the National Police. .

The victim has gone to the place looking for his ex-partner, as confirmed by the Government subdelegation to El Norte de Castilla. As a result of the event, the woman she was looking for and who witnessed the scene fainted a few minutes later and she also had to be treated by emergency services, according to the same media. On the other hand,  the man has been transferred to the University Hospital of Burgos (HUBU) and is in serious condition.

The events occurred minutes before 2:45 p.m. this Wednesday, when several calls alerted 112 of Castilla y León because a man was on fire in the middle of the street in the center of Burgos, next to him, the witnesses pointed out, there was a woman who turned out to be his ex-partner and who also had to be hospitalized but for an anxiety attack.

According to Diario de Burgos, the event occurred after an argument between the two people. Immediately afterwards, the man “exploded a bag of gasoline on his head and set himself on fire,” according to police sources consulted by the Burgos media. The owner of a business near the incident came with a fire extinguisher to spray it on the man. When several neighbors witnessed the scene, they mobilized to care for the injured, according to what several witnesses have told the National Police.

The police force has confirmed that it was a suicide attempt by the man by “setting himself on fire with a flammable liquid” and has taken charge of the investigation.
