“With a mixture of fear and hope, desire and fright.” This is how Sergio Peris-Mencheta claims to feel about the imminent arrival of what is already marked on the calendar as one of the most important days in his life: May 28, the date for his bone marrow transplant.
Since the director announced that he suffers from leukemia and moved to the United States with his family to undergo harsh treatments to combat the disease, he has always tried to gather strength to face the challenges that were placed before him. Now, there are only a few days left to celebrate what he calls his “birthday,” and he does it with energy and optimism.
This is what he wanted to express in his latest post on Instagram, where he shares his feelings in these last few days before the start of the “dance”, as he defines it. A mixture of expectation and nervousness almost impossible to define, but which the actor has tried to convey to his unconditional followers in a text accompanied by a photograph – taken by his inseparable wife, Marta Solaz -, where he can be seen, smiling, but without his characteristic mane.
“The dance begins,” begins Peris-Mencheta, who admits to feeling a mixture of mixed feelings, in addition to being “very well accompanied in the adventure,” but as is often the case with all patients, “absolutely alone in the process.”
“Today I feel good and strong, but they say that in a few days the “conditioning” for the transplant will take its toll,” he adds, somewhat worried. The actor insists that he is “healthy and energetic,” but the harsh treatments ahead of him give him respect: “the radiation and chemo ahead of me go over you like a steamroller,” he explains. he.
Still, he is firm: “Today I smile, but tomorrow too. Let’s go for it.”
Just a few minutes after its publication, the message was filled with comments of encouragement and support from thousands of followers, colleagues and friends who wished him luck and the best in this very important phase of the process. Well-known faces such as Michelle Jenner, Silvia Abascal, Eva Isana, Alejo Sauras and Tristán Ulloa did not want to stop reminding him of his strength and the amount of love that, from all corners of the planet, they sent him for those moments.
Peris-Mencheta patiently awaits his “birthday”, which also coincides with a date already marked for his family. Coincidentally, on May 28, the actor remembers another person on that day: his father. “It so happens that that same day will be exactly 10 years since the day I said goodbye to dad,” the director recalled when he learned the date of his operation.
The actor remembers that bitter moment, as it happened that he told his father that he was leaving for work reasons for a few days, but he never saw him again.
“I’m going bowling, dad. “I’ll be back in three days.” “I never saw him again,” she remembers, sadly. “I’m sure that wherever he is, this May 28th he already has a whole arsenal of energy organized to help me and I can celebrate that birthday in his honor for many years to come.”
