The Salvadoran diplomat Francisco Galindo Vélez (San Salvador, 1955) will coordinate the mediation and international verification in the negotiations that PSOE and Junts per Catalunya will hold on a monthly basis after the inauguration of Pedro Sánchez.

The former ambassador has already participated this Saturday in the first meeting of both groups in that forum, in a meeting that took place in Geneva (Switzerland) or its surroundings in a place that has not been revealed. The diplomat will be in charge of coordinating the international mechanism that verifies the negotiation, which also has the support of the Henry Dunant foundation.

At this Saturday’s meeting, the two parties, as stated in a statement, thanked him for his commitment, his willingness and his willingness to “contribute to reaching a political and negotiated solution to the conflict.” Present in the Swiss city were former president Carles Puigdemont, the general secretary of JxCat, Jordi Turull, and the spokesperson for the post-convergent formation in Congress, Míriam Nogueras. On the PSOE side were the organization secretary, Santos Cerdán, and his right-hand man in Ferraz, Juan Francisco Serrano. The two delegations are the same ones that closed the investiture agreement a few weeks ago.

Galindo has been ambassador of El Salvador in Colombia (2016-2020) and in France (2010-2015). He has also served as representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in France, Colombia, Mexico, Egypt. In addition, he was previously deputy regional representative in Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Cuba and Belize between 1987 and 2008.

In terms of training, the Salvadoran diplomat is a lawyer, has a degree in Legal Sciences and has a Doctorate degree at the University Institute of Higher International Studies in Geneva.
