SUPPORTERS OF PRESIDENT Donald Trump who stormed the U.S. Capitol last week planned to”catch and assassinate elected officials in the USA government,” federal prosecutors claimed in documents released Friday.
The magnificent disclosure was contained in a court filing late Thursday about Jacob Anthony Chansley, also known as”QAnon Shaman,” whose likeness has been shared after he participated in the violent mob posture stars-and-stripes facepaint and a headdress that included animal horns.
And it follows increasingly troubling reports about the gruesome intentions of all members of the mob which left a rally Trump held near the White House and laid siege to the Capitol on Jan. 6 as Congress was certifying President-elect Joe Biden’s electoral victory. The assault delayed the vote and led in shocking images of protesters vandalizing legislative chambers and lawmakers’ private offices while others armed with weapons and zip-tie handcuffs, while the others piled makeshift gallows outside.
Chansley claimed his note was not a threat, although the U.S. lawyer contended,”the authorities strongly disagrees.”
“Chansley acted on conspiracy theories he’s espoused in becoming one of those highest-profile members of a team that assaulted a congressional proceeding,” the filing states.
Trump has faced criticism throughout his attempts and administration for not denouncing conspiracy theories regarding his political opponents, including the movement known as QAnon which baselessly purports to involve members of a”deep country ” Close advisers of Trump’s, including former national security adviser Mike Flynn, whom Trump pardoned for federal crimes, also have touted these conspiracy theories.
Thursday’s filing claims against discharging Chansley while his court case proceeds.
At least five people died because of the protests, for example a woman fatally shot by authorities and Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick, who had been attacked by protesters and afterwards fell. Another officer, Howard Liebengood, who led to the response, subsequently died while off duty. The Associated Press later reported that two resources signaled his death was an apparent suicide.
Roughly 20,000 National Guard troops have been staged at or near the Capitol grounds to assist local law enforcement officials for persistent threats from the days leading up to next week’s inauguration.
D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser said at a press conference Friday afternoon that the reach of the assault on Jan. 6 will establish a”new normal” for safety in and around the funding to address”a very real and present threat to our state.”
“We all have to think about a new position. We surely have to think about a new posture in town.
“So while we are concentrated on Jan. 20, we’re also focused on Jan. 21 and each day afterwards in the nation’s capital.”
