Postponed, for the second time, the appearance scheduled in the Congress of Deputies for the European Parliament’s commission of inquiry into espionage with the Pegasus software to report on the progress. If last week it had to be postponed when the meeting coincided with the motion of no confidence, this Tuesday the cancellation was due to technical problems with the translation, according to sources present at the Defense Commission.
The president of the investigation commission of the Eurocámara, Jeroen Lenaers, has canceled the session due to the ambient sound that came from the Congress, which prevented the translation. Lenaers has attributed, according to Europa Press, to the translators of the European Parliament “lack of will” to resolve the incident. “I am very disappointed with this, it is not the first time that we have encountered these situations,” he indicated, noting that the sound that reached the room was “adequate”, although insufficient to carry out the translation.
In the Congress of Deputies, there have been several political groups that have asked to go ahead with the speech in English, without simultaneous translation, but there has been no agreement on the part of all the spokespersons of the Defense Commission, who preferred to listen to the speech in Spanish.
After postponing the appearance, Lenaers has stressed that in a letter to the president, Roberta Metsola, she already urged to resolve these issues. “There were almost no problems during the coronavirus and now there are only problems.”
The former president of the Generalitat Carles Puigdemont has joined the complaints through his Twitter account: “They are not technical problems and today it has become clear.” For Puigdemont, that in the 21st century, two parliaments “of the so-called first world” cannot hold a session “due to alleged technical problems is not admissible”. “It’s embarrassing and everything”, he has sentenced himself.
