Player Ratings: Roma 5-2 AC Milan – Theo screamer as Jimenez impresses

AC Milan’s last outing of the season, albeit unofficial, ended in a big defeat as Roma prevailed in front of the crowd in Perth, Australia. A few players took the opportunity while others could have done better, and below are the Rossoneri’s ratings. If you haven’t already, make sure to check out how we decide the player ratings. From the scale to what affects the rating, we have compiled everything there.

Sportiello (4.5): Really poor goalkeeping to give Roma the lead. He saw the ball all the way, it was straight at him and didn’t have much power, but still it ended up in the back of the net. He made one good save later but that first goal, man…

Calabria (5.5): Well-balanced performance between defence and attack, offering support where needed, but he missed a big chance in the first half. He tried to go for glory but certainly should have passed.

Gabbia (5.5): He did well to follow his opponent most of the time but was caught sleeping on the second goal. The rest of his performance wasn’t anything to brag about either, with Roma often finding space in the centre.

Kalulu (5.5): Just like his colleague, he could have done a lot better on the second goal and struggled to impose himself overall. Baldanzi often found space on the left side and Kalulu failed to keep that from happening.

Hernandez (7 – MOTM): What a strike that was! Absolute sublime to find the back of the net with such a first-time finish. He also had a hand in several other attacks during the game and at least offered something when going forward. Could have done more defensively on the first goal, but Sportiello is still the man to blame for that one.

Reijnders (6.5): He was very tidy on the ball once again and was almost always involved when Milan created something in attack. He was also responsible for a great solo run, showcasing his skill, which ended with Okafor hitting the post. Just about misses out on a 7 here, but one could argue he should have had it.

Adli (6): The Frenchman bagged an assist, finding Theo with a nice looping cross, and he nearly got another in the second half as Jimenez came close to a similar goal. He was also decent overall, certainly earning a pass here.

Pobega (5): He didn’t show much despite 66 minutes on the pitch, apart from one shot that was nearly spilt by the keeper. We need to see much more from a midfielder in that position.

Florenzi (5.5): The veteran was free to roam as he pleased and although he sometimes found good positions, it was not the best of roles for him. He wasn’t on set pieces either, which he usually does so well.

Giroud (5.5): He was left all alone, more or less, so he was always going to struggle. One good flick-on to Theo and another good run into the box, but ultimately it was a bleak last display for the club. The true last performance (vs. Salernitana) was great, though.

Jimenez (6.5): The youngster was clearly very keen on proving himself and it ended up being a good evening. He was involved in a lot in attack, using his speed and acceleration to trouble Roma time after time, and he nearly got a fantastic Theo-esque goal with an effort that struck the bar.

Substitutes

Nava (5.5): He couldn’t do much about the goals conceded, in fairness, but his inexperience showed on a few occasions. For example, he often cleared the ball instead of finding a teammate or letting the ball run into the penalty box (to claim it with his hands).

Thiaw (N/A): Weirdly enough, even though he came on after 45 minutes, we didn’t see enough to give him a rating.

Tomori (5): He didn’t close in on his man quick enough on the third goal and failed to press Azmoun on the fifth, even if the midfielders were the first line of defence on that one.

Bartesaghi (6): The left-back played with confidence and nearly bagged a goal with a nice strike that just about missed the target. He also had some good crosses into the box, so he gets a pass here.

Musah (5.5): An energetic display, as always, but with little substance and thus he didn’t do enough to get a pass here.

Okafor (6.5): He was really good off the bench, first hitting the post with an effort that the goalkeeper somehow got a hand to, and then scoring after a lovely first touch.

Zeroli (N/A): We didn’t see enough to give him a rating.

Terracciano (N/A): We didn’t see enough to give him a rating.

Simic (N/A): We didn’t see enough to give him a rating.
