Actress Neve Campbell will not be part of the Scream 6 cast because the salary she was offered “doesn’t match the value” she has brought to the well-known horror movie franchise.

“Sadly, I will not be in the next ‘Scream’ movie. As a woman I have had to work very hard in my career to establish my worth, especially in the case of ‘Scream.’ value that I have brought to the franchise,” the actress said in a statement released by the Hollywood press.

Campbell added that leaving the saga that has made her most famous has been a “difficult decision” and assured that she is “eternally grateful” for “everything” that the franchise has given her “over the last 25 years.”

For its part, neither the producer of Scream, Spyglass Media, nor Paramount studios have commented on the matter.

The success that the last film in the franchise that Wes Craven started in 1996 reaped in theaters earlier this year encouraged Paramount to give the green light to a new sequel that will feature the same directors, Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett.

“Scream” successfully returned to theaters on the 25th anniversary of its debut, with a fifth installment that featured a good part of the original cast – Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette – and that grossed more than 140 million dollars in all the world.

The return of the saga, which cost 20 million dollars to shoot, exceeded or far exceeded the performance of the brand’s previous installment, “Scream 4”, which in 2011 only entered 38 million in the US and was a resounding failure .

“We are tremendously appreciative of how well the film has been received by fans around the world,” the studio said in a statement after the premiere.

At the moment the cast and the plot of the new film, which was scheduled to begin filming next summer, are unknown.
