The Canarian soccer player Naomi Mendoza, goalkeeper of the Canarian under 17 women’s team, has died this Tuesday due to an illness that has dragged on in recent weeks and for which she was in a coma.
The news of his death has shocked soccer in the Canary Islands. Despite his young age, Mendoza had played in different teams such as CF Las Majoreras Guayadeque, CD Iregui, CD Universitario, CD Achamán or CD Guiniguada Apolinario. Some of the clubs have fired the goalkeeper and expressed their condolences on social networks.
“It’s a sad day for sport. We all hoped that Naomi would get ahead. She was an impressive girl due to her character and her qualities,” published José Juan Arencibia, president of the Las Palmas Inter-island Football Federation (FIFLP).
According to the statement issued by the FIFLP, Arencibia has proposed this afternoon to the Governing Board that a minute of silence be observed in all the matches that are played this weekend in the province.
