In mid-November Rafa Nadal announced his return to tennis after his long injury. Nadal, who will return on December 31 at the Brisbane Open 250, wanted to explain in a video his expectations and his way of seeing his return to the professional circuit.
The injury he had to his psoas has kept him inactive for almost a year. This injury has caused Nadal to drop in the ATP ranking and this scenario involves confrontations with demanding opponents from the start, since he will arrive without being seeded.
Through his social networks, Nadal has acknowledged having been afraid to “announce things because in the end it is a year without competing and it is a hip operation, but what worries me most is not the hip but everything else. I think I am prepared and I trust and hope that things go well and that it gives me the opportunity to enjoy the track again.
Regarding what he expects from him, the tennis player from Manacor believes that the best thing for himself is to not expect anything: “I expect from myself not to expect anything, this is the truth. Having the ability to not demand of myself what I have demanded of myself throughout my career. I think I am in a different time, in a situation and in unexplored terrain, with which one has internalized what he has done throughout his life, which is to demand the maximum of himself.”
One of the things that the 22-time Grand Slam champion misses most are the nerves he felt before taking to the court: “In the end it’s a long time. I hope to feel those nerves again, that excitement, those fears, those doubts… ”
“Right now what I hope is to be able to not do it, to not demand the maximum from myself. To accept that things are going to be very difficult at the beginning and to give myself the necessary time and forgive myself if things go wrong at the beginning, which is a very big possibility, but knowing that there may be a not-too-distant future in which things can change If I maintain the enthusiasm and the spirit of work and the physique responds to me, without a doubt,” Nadal concluded.
