The fishing municipalities of the Costa Dorada will be able to access the 15.6 million euros of European aid to promote the sustainable blue economy. The Department of Climate Action, Food and Rural Agenda has selected the candidacy of Cambrils, Tarragona, Torredembarra and Calafell and has allowed them to set up as a Local Fishing Action Group (GALP), an essential step in order to qualify for these grants.
Currently, 3,862 jobs are identified in the blue economy sectors in the area and four brotherhoods have joined the FLAG, with a fishing fleet of 67 vessels that generate catches of 3,164 tons per year and a first-sale recapture of 14 millions of euros.
The budget for participatory local development for the next six years is 15.6 million euros, double the current budget. The objective of this increase is to be able to implement the projects proposed by the fishing territories in the entire Catalan fishing coastline, for which reason 21% of the European Maritime Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (FEMPA) has been reserved in this line of aid .
Apart from the candidature of the Costa Daurada, which this year has been built for the first time, the Department of Climate Action, within the framework of the European Maritime Fund for Fisheries and Aquaculture, has selected four more candidatures from the Local Action Groups Fisheries (GALP) that supply all the fishing municipalities of Catalonia.
