The National Police have arrested a 58-year-old man in Elx as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of discovery and disclosure of secrets since he allegedly installed a video surveillance camera in his ex-partner’s home to control all his steps when they were still together.

The investigation began after finding the woman at her home “casually” the camera hidden in a ventilation shaft, as reported by the National Police in a statement on Monday.

This finding was communicated to a Judicial Police agent who performs protection functions for victims of acts related to crimes of gender violence and with whom the woman maintains “constant” contact due to a protection order.

The agents, after the steps taken, found out that the camera was supposedly placed at his ex-partner’s house when they were still in a sentimental relationship, since during the time they were together the man had the keys and could access the home alone to install without being seen by the video surveillance device.

During the course of the investigation, the agents found out that the person investigated contacted the internet company that his ex-partner had hired by phone. The man allegedly pretended to be her husband before the company and provided an identification other than the real one to access the router keys and thus be able to remotely access the camera and “control all of her movements.”

The now detainee, who is a telecommunications engineer, had several laptops, hard drives, mobile phones, a tablet and electronic devices in his vehicle that he could have used to commit similar acts.

These computer elements are still pending analysis by the Police. The arrested person has already been handed over to the Court of Violence against Women acting as a Guard in the city of Elx.
