LOS ANGELES — Sunday’s MTV Movie & TV Awards returns with a live program that could see Spider-Man: No Way Home win some trophies.
With seven nominations, the 2021 phenomenon enters the show as the top nominee. “No Way Home”, which earned nearly $1.9 billion at the box-office, was the most popular film of the year. It was also a fan favorite. However, it was mostly overlooked by major awards shows.
MTV’s celebrations of television and films are lighter and more casual. This year Vanessa Hudgens hosts and the broadcast will be live from Barker Hanger, Santa Monica, California at 8 p.m. ET on MTV and BET, Comedy Central and VH1 among other Paramount networks.
Jack Black will be honored with the Comic Genius award, and Jennifer Lopez will be receiving this year’s Generation Award. This honor recognizes actors whose contributions to film and television have made them household names.
Six nominations have been made for HBO’s “Euphoria”, while four are made for “The Batman”. During the two-hour-long show, 26 awards will go to gender-neutral categories.
The show added “Here for the Hookup”, and best song awards this year.
Swae Lee and Diplo will perform “Tupelo Schuffle” in the “Elvis” biopic directed by Baz Luhrmann.
