Leo Messi’s goal of winning his first title in his American adventure is getting closer. His team, Inter Miami, was clearly superior in the quarterfinals to Charlotte, whom they defeated 4-0, and is now just two games away from lifting the Leagues Cup trophy at the hands of the team led by the British David Beckham.

The match did not present too many difficulties for those from Miami against a rival with little bite. Without reaching the quarter hour mark, Josef Martínez opened the scoring after masterfully executing a clear penalty committed against his teammate Arroyo.

Under the baton of Busquets and with Jordi Alba also a former Barcelona player facing firmly on his left wing, Inter Miami was creating danger in their search for the second goal. His effort was rewarded in a play started by Sergio that ended with an assist from Yedlin that was well finished by Taylor with a low shot.

For the second half, a more incisive performance by Charlotte was expected, but it was not to be. Inter owned the ball and at no time did they see their victory and pass to the semifinals in jeopardy, wide open with Malanda’s own goal.

The finishing touch came from the hand of Messi, who only had to push the ball into the net after an assist from Campana to sign the final 4-0. It is the eighth goal for the Argentine star in the five games played to date in this competition.

To reach the final, they now have to beat the Philadelphia Union in the semi-final in a match to be played on August 15.
