Megan Hilty Shines at Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting

Bellevue’s own Megan Hilty, known for her work on Broadway, television, and in movies, will be taking on a new role tomorrow night as she helps light up the iconic Rockefeller Center Christmas tree during a live show on NBC. The event, “Christmas in Rockefeller Center,” is a beloved tradition that has been captivating audiences for nine decades. Hilty expressed her excitement about being a part of such a historic event, stating, “It’s such an iconic event, it’s been around for nine decades. It’s got such a beautiful legacy.”

A Local Tradition and Holiday Favorites

While lighting the Rockefeller Center tree is a national tradition, Hilty shared a more personal holiday tradition that is close to her heart. She revealed, “Well, what I would do as soon as I get home, I would go immediately to the Pike Place Market. I don’t even have to buy anything. It’s just being just walking around that, that feels like home to me.”

In a lighthearted moment, Hilty indulged in a quick round of holiday favorites, sharing that she prefers an artificial tree for its durability during her two-month holiday season. She also revealed that her favorite old school Christmas movie is “The Muppet Christmas Carol” and her go-to Christmas cookie is the Gingerbread Molasses Cookies from the Christmas Market in New York.

Busy Holiday Season and Special Messages

Despite her hectic schedule, which includes starring in “Death Becomes Her” on Broadway, Hilty took a moment to share a heartwarming story about receiving perfectly preserved flowers from Meryl Streep, her co-star in the musical. She expressed her disbelief and gratitude, saying, “Isn’t that something — I just about hit the floor when those flowers arrived in my dressing room!”

As Hilty prepares for the holiday season and her upcoming performance at Rockefeller Center, she sends a special message to her fans in the Pacific Northwest, expressing her love and warm wishes for a Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. Though she may be far from home, she is grateful for the opportunity to bring the holiday spirit to her hometown through the magic of television.
