Spanish tennis is in luck. What was seen this Sunday at the Wimbledon tournament is history. After almost five hours of the game, Carlos Alcaraz, at twenty years old, prevailed over the giant Novak Djokovic, taking over the grass in London, United Kingdom, and winning his second Grand Slam of his sports career.
There were many anecdotes during and after the confrontation between the Murcian and the Serbian. However, there is one, as Matías Prats revealed on Antena 3 Weekend News, which featured Alcaraz and King Felipe VI, who did not want to miss the final on grass at London’s Center Court.
Carlos Alcaraz gave a tennis lesson this Sunday on the London grass by knocking down Novak Djokovic with a 1-6, 7-6 (6), 6-1, 3-6 and 6-4, in 4h42m. The expectation was maximum on the part of the public and the media. In fact, Matías Prats, one of the veteran news communicators in our country, showed off his wisdom about this sport and analyzed the great match of the Murcian.
We can say that the journalist also gave a lesson listing the blows that led Alcaraz to win his first crown at Wimbledon. He did it hand in hand with his partner Mónica Carrillo in the second edition of the news and thus spoke about the victory of the very young Carlitos: “He has shown confidence, security, that I believe that the last game is the summary, the compendium of how It’s this boy.”
And he added something important, that the Spaniard played as he always does, having fun. That is the maxim that has led him to this Grand Slam. Likewise, Mónica Carrillo wanted to know how that meeting between Alcaraz and King Felipe VI had also been after the game and Prats highlighted what has already become the anecdote of the day.
Everything happened during that spirited conversation between the Murcian and the monarch, in which they previously gave each other an affectionate hug and Felipe VI introduced him to the Dukes of Wales and their children. So, the tennis player thanked him for being present and told him: “This is the second time he has come to see me and I have won two tournaments. Please come more.”
Next, the Antena 3 Televisión journalist added another situation between Alcaraz and the king: that moment in which Felipe VI asked him how he had felt when he was 5-3 to win. The Murcian’s response was revealing:
“Well, I remembered what happened to Federer, who had 8-7 in the fifth set at 40-30 against Djokovic and lost. But then, the inspiration came to me and I was able to win”.
Lastly, Prats had some affectionate words for the young Spanish athlete: “This boy is something special. First, I play him, but it is also that his smile, his sportsmanship, his way of expressing himself in the game, those impossible shots that he suddenly pulls out of his sleeve captivate ”.
“And then also, he has been very gentlemanly because, despite the fact that Djokovic has had a somewhat ugly gesture [he broke his racket at one point in the match], afterwards Djokovic has been very nice to him and he has told him: ‘I I saw you win when I was practically being born’”, said the presenter to end his analysis of the victory of the Murcian against the Serb.
