All the municipalities of Maresme, with the exception of Vilassar de Mar, continue to gain population. According to the latest official data corresponding to the review of the municipal registers as of January 1, 2023, the region already has 467,914 inhabitants. In the last year, the region has experienced a population growth of 1.23%, adding 5,701 people.
The data, analyzed by the Local Development Observatory of the Maresme County Council, show that Santa Susanna and Dosrius are the municipalities with the greatest demographic growth in percentages that in the case of Santa Susanna amounts to 3.52% and in Dosrius they reach 3 .50% In contrast, Vilassar de Mar drops by 0.06%.
Mataró, with nearly 130,000 inhabitants, continues to be the most populated municipality, although its weight with respect to the total of the region drops to 27.76%. For its part, Premià de Mar (28,767) remains in second place although closely followed by Pineda de Mar (28,751). El Masnou (24,181) is the fourth municipality in Maresme in population and Vilassar de Mar (21,055) is the fifth.
Two towns: Calella (19,862) and Malgrat de Mar (19,213) are on the verge of becoming part of the Maresme block of cities that exceed 20,000 inhabitants.
