In October 2022, María León received a complaint for allegedly attacking a local police officer in Seville. This alleged crime against authority and injuries has caused the actress to have to go to trial in the coming months, despite trying to avoid it.
According to the order, collected by Diario de Sevilla and EFE, the Provincial Court of Seville has seen “solid and rational indications” for all of this to be investigated. With this, the appeal presented by Paco León’s sister to have the case archived has been dismissed.
María León reported having suffered “police abuse” when she was celebrating the end of a filming. A police officer stopped one of her companions who was allegedly drunk on a bicycle. At that moment, she herself took charge of recording the previous moments with her mobile phone and her agent warned her that if she continued with that attitude she would end up arrested.
After a brawl, she was arrested to identify herself at the police station, since she did not have her ID on her. With this, the complaint states that the actress tried to “escape” from her car. For this reason, the order states that “after examining the evidence taken, the possible commission of a criminal act has been evidenced.”
Added to this is that “the existence of indications of the possible commission of the criminal offense is sufficient for the process to continue.” Therefore, the Court sees it as necessary to hold this trial so that both parties can provide their testimonies and evidence, and can make a decision.
On the other hand, she herself issued statements shortly after what happened, giving a different version from that of the agent: “They put me in the patrol car and I feel great claustrophobia and I start to hyperventilate (…) I have injuries to my knee and on my wrists at the time of arrest (…) At the police station my menstruation comes early and they do not assist me or provide me with any personal hygiene products, they force me to remain stained and bleeding.”
The actress’s lawyer wanted to make it clear that they consider that in this arrest a “misuse of her authority” was made, having a “cocky and violent attitude” towards León. Something that she herself has defended from the first moment.
However, it remains to be seen if Paco León’s sister can prove her version, taking into account that the video that was leaked about his arrest does not show the aggression to which he refers. Some images that were broadcast on the program En boca de todos where the Police inspector in charge of the case assured that the police action was “impeccable.”
