Josep María Mainat left the Ciutat de la Justícia in Barcelona calm and in good spirits after learning that his ex, Ángela Dobrowolski, had accepted a plea deal with the prosecution and the judge had imposed a sentence considerably more lenient than what could have been condemned. “I wasted the morning, they could have reached the agreement last night,” he said jokingly. He was actually relieved that his testimony as a witness was not necessary. He withdrew his accusation against her a long time ago and did not feel like remembering that episode before the judge. He even went so far as to downplay the significance of what happened:

“I am delighted with life to not have to testify for this. It is a case that happened five years ago. The injuries were then very noticeable, her face was bloody but in reality they were minor; blood is very scandalous. I had an erosion here [points between forehead and temple] but I healed myself. Speaking five years after this… Justice must be relentless but… (laughs),” the producer said to the Europa Press microphones.

He is much more concerned about the attempted murder trial that will begin on July 15 and is expected to last four sessions. “I would like it to be clarified what happened that night. I didn’t accuse Angela of anything. I just said “this has happened” and the Mossos investigated. My son did accuse her but I want to clarify what happened and I hope that she has sufficient, comprehensive and convincing explanations for all the, erm, somewhat inexplicable things that happened that day. Explainable only if there was an attempted murder but if there wasn’t, I want to know what her version is, why she did that, why she went to the refrigerator, why… Everything.”

During the four years since the early hours of June 22 to 23, 2020, Mainat has given a thousand thoughts to the whys. He still doesn’t understand it even today even though everything has gone from bad to worse: “To think that the person who is your wife, or who has been your wife, to think that she wants to do something as terrible as take your life and leave her children without a father.” It’s hard to accept. Internally I refuse to believe it. But it is true that the Mossos report says that all the evidence points to this, so I want to hear her – because she has never explained it to me either – tell the court why she did all those things that night, if she has a sufficient explanation. to acquit her, which would be the best possibility because it would mean that such a terrible thing did not happen.”

The producer admits to harboring a “bipolar feeling” about his wife: “There are the almost ten years that we lived very happily, there are two wonderful children and there is this last terrible time. After the divorce everything has been a disaster. I’ve always thought she needed help and in fact, he asked for it at some point. But then she stopped believing it and when a person stops believing that they need help, they cannot be forced. Be careful, I need help too, huh? (laughs). And in fact, I have it. Not from a psychiatrist but from a psychologist who helps me manage everything well. She needs. And he needs to disin… Well, rehabilitate himself from everything and if he is capable later, finish his degree in Medicine, which is very close to him. If not in Spain, in Germany or wherever and rebuild his life. Whether he goes to jail for a few years or not, because even if he does, he is young; At 50 he would be out and that is many years of life.”
