Sub-inspector Lluís Lupiáñez took office this Friday as the new head of the Figueres Urban Guard after the retirement of inspector Josep Maria Riera.

Lupiáñez takes office with the challenge, he said, of giving greater visibility to the force, recovering the “proximity” police and fighting against incivility.

During his speech, he assured that he faces the mandate with “excitement and pride” and with the will to “organize” the body and give it “a new direction” with new human and material resources.

Lupiáñez has insisted that, despite the general feeling, Figueres “has very good police data” and that what needs to be worked on thoroughly are uncivil acts. “There is only one step from incivility to insecurity,” he said.
