Life makes its way on the banks of the Ter. We can observe it in the nests of the gray herons, which are beginning to become a true family home for the new young that are being born, as can be seen in this series of photographs in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia.

The small gray herons continue to be born this spring in the Ter. From the viewpoint of the Meandre del Despujol de Les Masies de Voltregà, in Osona, you can see the scene in the nests that are on the other shore, already in the municipality of Torelló.

Gray herons breed in colonies, usually in tall trees near water. In this area, specifically, they take advantage of the River Ter.

Nests start out as a small platform of sticks, but can end up being a huge mass of accumulated material.

The gray heron is a slender, long-necked and long-legged waterbird with mainly gray plumage. It lives in rivers, lakes and all kinds of fresh and brackish water wetlands.
