La Mesa Flag Day Parade to Take Place This Weekend

The 25th annual La Mesa Flag Day Parade is set to take place this weekend, on June 8, along La Mesa Boulevard. The parade, which has been a tradition since 1997, will kick off at 10 a.m. at the intersection of University Avenue and La Mesa Boulevard. Led by the United States Marine Corps 3rd Wing Band, the parade will proceed west through The Village to Acacia Avenue.

Former city councilmember Ruth Sterling has been chosen as this year’s grand marshal in recognition of her dedication to the parade. Sterling has been involved in the event since its inception, from leading the parade’s committee to establishing the Flag Day Parade Endowment.

Attendees of the parade can look forward to complimentary ice cream bars at the Civic Center parking lot on Date Street, across from the La Mesa Police Department. The city encourages individuals to walk or use public transportation to attend the event.

The La Mesa Flag Day Parade is made possible thanks to the generous donations from community members, as well as sponsors such as EDCO, Pete’s Place, and the La Mesa Village Association. Make sure to mark your calendars and join in on the celebration of patriotism and community spirit at the La Mesa Flag Day Parade this weekend.
