The Kyiv authorities reported this Sunday that the Ukrainian capital suffered the biggest Russian drone attack last night since the start of the invasion by Moscow troops, which has left at least one person dead and another injured.
The Kyiv City Military Administration claimed on its Telegram channel that Ukrainian air defenses destroyed more than 40 Iranian-made kamikaze drones in Kyiv airspace.
“This was the most massive drone strike against the capital since the start of the full-scale invasion,” the institution said.
Although they pointed out that there is still no conclusive data, the municipal authorities affirmed that the remains of the downed drones caused personal and material damage in several districts of Kyiv.
Specifically, in the Holosiivskyi district, one person died and another was injured due to the impact suffered by a seven-story non-residential building and several fires were also recorded.
As reported by the mayor of Kyiv, Vitaliy Klitschko, the first explosions occurred around 01:00 local time, but the drones continued to arrive in several waves and from various directions throughout the night.
According to the Ukrainian outlet “Kyiv Independent”, the attack could be part of a Russian plan to deplete Ukrainian anti-aircraft defenses, which include US-supplied Patriot anti-missile systems, on the eve of the expected Ukrainian counteroffensive.
