Joaquín Sánchez is one of the most prominent male faces in our country. The one who was a Real Betis Balompié player for more than 14 years retired from the playing field at the end of the 2022/23 season, thus causing infinite sadness among the green and white fans.
Although he still had a lot of energy to give, the man had already surpassed the 40-year-old barrier, so he decided to stop and make way for new generations. In addition, Sánchez had countless projects on the table.
Due to his overwhelming personality, his natural grace and self-confidence in front of the cameras, the former elite athlete found himself with many job offers once he hung up his football boots.
His fans were amazed to see how the Cádiz native signed for Atresmedia and how the communication group entrusted him with an interview space (Joaquín el Novato) and prepared a docuseries for him (Joaquín: La penultima y me voy). Furthermore, a few months ago it was made public that the audiovisual company was preparing a new show for prime time on its main network and that said space would be called El Capitán and would be presented by Joaquín Sánchez.
In addition to his career on television and different personal projects, Joaquín has recently revealed that he has a new goal in sight: to be a bullfighter. Last Thursday night, the Andalusian participated in an event called ‘Arte en Verdiblanco’ in which the bullfighter Manuel Jesús ‘El Cid’ and the singer Israel Fernández also collaborated.
During the meeting, the athlete compared winning a derby with the feeling that a bullfighter must experience when he leaves through the Puerta del Príncipe de la Maestranza: ”It is this type of match that we all want to play and win. They are different parties. All of us who have played a great derby here in Seville, they are different days.”
At one point in the conversation, the Betic left those present speechless by confessing that he will soon make his debut as a bullfighter in the plaza of El Puerto de Santa María, his hometown.
”As a child I remember that I would grab a towel rather than a soccer ball, I would take the towels and skimmers from my mother to go in and kill. The Port will be the site for the first. It doesn’t scare me, I respect it. After so many years I think I have improved a lot in technique, distances… I see myself capable of putting myself in front of a bull,’ he stated, confident of himself.
