“One in ten Europeans would have been conceived in an Ikea bed” … For almost fifteen years, we have regularly seen this information repeated in French as well as foreign media. And since Ikea claims to record 1 billion visits to its stores every year, the involvement of its bedding in the sex life of such a large number of Europeans does not seem implausible.

But how to measure such a thing? How can we ensure that the parents of these 10% of Europeans actually conceive their children in an Ikea bed, and not in a sofa, an armchair or even on the floor? The question deserves all the more a fact-checking that some relay this figure by mentioning “serious studies”.
