The Justice Department is getting all up in former Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s business with a criminal investigation. Yeah, the same Cuomo who is trying to become the next mayor of New York City. Apparently, he’s being looked into over his testimony to Congress last year. Someone who knows what’s going on spilled the beans on this whole situation.

House Republicans were the ones who asked for this federal investigation into Cuomo, a Democrat. They claim he lied to the House Oversight Committee when he said he didn’t check out a report from the New York Department of Health about how the state handled the coronavirus pandemic while he was governor. The Justice Department spokesperson didn’t want to say anything about it on Tuesday night. The New York Times was the first to report on this investigation.

Cuomo’s spokesperson, Rich Azzopardi, is questioning why this news is coming out now. He’s like, “We never heard anything about this before, so why leak it now?” According to him, this is all about politics and messing with the election. Azzopardi defended Cuomo’s testimony, saying the governor told the truth as best as he could remember stuff from four years ago. He even offered to answer more questions from the Subcommittee. But hey, it’s all just a big political game, right?

So, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia started looking into Cuomo before Jeanine Pirro took over as interim U.S. attorney. Ed Martin, the previous guy, spilled the tea on his last day in office, saying he’s under investigation by Washington’s Office of Disciplinary Counsel. He mentioned that he planned to call out people who the Justice Department didn’t charge with crimes. That’s not really how things are usually done at the Justice Department.

During Trump’s second term, some Justice Department peeps quit because they didn’t like how a case against New York Mayor Eric Adams was being handled. Adams, a Democrat running for re-election as an independent, was getting in trouble for corruption. Trump’s crew wanted the case dropped because Adams was helping out with immigration stuff. The judge eventually threw out the charges against Adams, saying they couldn’t use possible future charges against him as leverage.

In the end, Jonathan Dienst also had a hand in all of this. It’s like a soap opera, but with politicians and lawyers instead of actors. Who knows what’ll happen next? Not really sure why this matters, but that’s the news for now.
