Under a shining sun we headed our steps to the beautiful hermitage of Sant Martà Xic, in Osona, very close to Lluçanès and a dream place, as can be seen in this photographic report in Las Fotos de los Lectores de La Vanguardia.
The climb is quite heavy, with different ramps and the heat is burning, but the colorful landscape relieves our fatigue with impressive views.
The beautiful final stretch over a long rocky breakwater finally makes us reach our long-awaited destination. This hermitage is included in the Inventory of the Architectural Heritage of Catalonia.
At the top of the nearest mound stood the castle of Voltregà , of which only a few ruins remain today. In fact, in the past, a wall included this hermitage within the fortification enclosure.
This hermitage was initially known as Sant Martà de Voltregà or Sant Martà del Castell, but the popular nomenclature of Sant Martà Xic (that is, small) ended up being imposed due to its size.
The lack of worship led to the abandonment and subsequent ruin of the chapel, until it was restored in 1984.
