If you’re planning to take the Metro to the eastern end of the Blue, Orange, or Silver lines this weekend, be prepared for some changes. Due to work on the aerial structure over the Anacostia River, several stations along these lines will be closed, and shuttle buses will be in place to replace train service.
Here’s what you need to know about the impact on each line:
? Blue Line:
– Trains will run between Franconia-Springfield and Federal Center SW.
– Stations east of Federal Center SW will be closed, and passengers will need to take a shuttle bus to continue their journey.
? Orange Line:
– On Saturday, trains will run between Vienna and Eastern Market.
– Stations east of Eastern Market will be closed, with shuttle buses available for affected passengers.
– On Sunday, service will resume between Cheverly and New Carrollton.
? Silver Line:
– Trains will run between Ashburn and Eastern Market, as well as between Addison Road and Downtown Largo.
– Passengers traveling between Eastern Market and Addison Road will need to use shuttle buses.
In addition to the closures, the WMATA has mentioned that crews will be working on various improvements, such as replacing electrical systems and repairing concrete.
Furthermore, the Red Line will also have service changes as crews work on the Tunnel Leak Mitigation Project. Trains will single track between Van Ness and Friendship Heights, with service running every 18 minutes between Dupont Circle and Shady Grove.
Make sure to plan ahead and allow for extra travel time if you’ll be using the Metro this weekend, especially if your journey involves the affected stations on the Blue, Orange, Silver, or Red lines. Stay informed and be prepared for these temporary changes to ensure a smooth commute.
