The candidate for the presidency of the Generalitat of the PSC, Salvador Illa, has not ruled out either the so-called sociovergence, that is, an agreement with Junts, or counting on the votes of the Popular Party, at specific moments of the legislature that will open on the next 10 June with the constitution of the Parliament.

In an interview in El Món with RAC1, the former Minister of Health assured that “now is the time for political action”, and has confirmed that he will meet with all political forces except those who have “hate speeches”. In this sense, Illa has not ruled out the votes of Junts or the PP to be president. Although the support of the popular ones does not seem “the most appropriate”, the socialist leader has not rejected them despite “not being the preferred option.” Likewise, although he has clarified that he does not know “if now is the best time,” he has denied that “sociovergence is impossible.”

On the other hand, Illa has ruled out the possibility of supporting the Junts candidate, Carles Puigdemont, to be the next president of the Generalitat. “It seems unprecedented to me that he asks that whoever has won the elections give him support,” he stated. In addition, he also rejects a repeat election. In this sense, Illa has assured that “Catalonia does not deserve it.”

The socialist leader has shown himself willing to reach specific agreements with all parties to carry out “broad country agreements” on “education or infrastructure.” Also in other more specific projects such as the Hard Rock or the expansion of the airport. “It seems to me to be a strategic decision for the country,” he stated.

Regarding the expansion of the airport, Illa has celebrated that a majority of the Parliament is in favor of the proposal and has described it as “essential.”

Regarding the formation of a possible Government, the PSC candidate has assured that he is still not “clear” about all the pieces of the Executive although his wish is for it to be made up of “professional politicians and independent professionals.” After confirming Núria Parlón as Minister of the Interior and Josep Lluís Trapero as general director of the Mossos de Esquadra, Illa “continues to think” about the names that could form his executive.

Before the formation of the Government of the Generalitat, the Parliament Board, the second authority of Catalonia, must be established. This will be the first great pact towards the investiture, and Illa has assured that the Table “must be representative of the plurality of the Parliament.” He has not ruled out that the PP has a place nor has he defined who will occupy its presidency, but he has reiterated that it must be consistent with the weight of each party in the chamber.

Finally, Illa has also commented on the current political tension and regretted that President Milei attacked Sánchez and his wife during a Vox rally in Madrid: “Political language has limits.”
