The first secretary of the PSC, Salvador Illa, has come out this Wednesday in response to the statements made by some socialist barons in recent days, after the Esquerra Republicana and the Government have agreed on the reform of the Penal Code with the repeal of the crime of sedition and embezzlement modification. The also head of the opposition in Parliament has assured that there will not be a referendum on self-determination, and has asked the Republicans “to tell the truth” because in Catalonia “the page has already been turned.”

The legal changes, which in theory favor pro-independence leaders, and the ERC’s political presentation – which includes holding a new self-determination referendum in which the participation of 50% of the census and the favorable vote of 55% are required to negotiate independence with the State – together with some statements by Oriol Junqueras, president of the formation, in which he does not rule out a unilateral path, have caused concern and alarm in the socialist ranks, with statements by the president of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García Page, or the one from Aragón, Javier Lambán, in which they warn of what is happening.

For this reason, Illa has communicated with Page, to whom she has asked for “height of vision” and has assured him that “what is good for Catalonia is good for Spain” and that his formation, the PSC, “has guaranteed, guarantees and will guarantee compliance with the Constitution”.

During an appearance before the media, the leader of the Catalan socialists also referred to the budget negotiation and the agreement that the Government of Pere Aragonès has already closed with En Comú Podem for the accounts of the Generalitat. Illa has affirmed that the negotiations are still “green” and that the agreement “is far away”.

Likewise, the leader of the PSC has stressed that they do not feel bound by the pacts that the Catalan Executive closes with third parties and that they do not feel pressured by the agreement with the commons, on which he has avoided going into details since it has not yet been knows the content of the agreement.

The Catalan socialists demand a commitment from the Government with projects such as the expansion of the airport, with the Ronda del Vallès or the Hard Rock macro-complex in the Tarragona region. From Palau they reply that these issues are not strictly related to budgets, since some of them depend on the economic items allocated by the State.
